Built for Idaho

Hail, embers and snow. A roof made for Idaho weather.

An Idaho roof takes spring and summer thunderstorms, wildfire smoke and embers in a dry August, winter snow, and months of freezing nights followed by sunny days. Here is what an Interlock® aluminum roof does about each.

Hail

Class 4 impact rated, in four profiles

Hail comes with Treasure Valley thunderstorms: on June 26, 2026 a storm left several inches of small hail on the ground in northwest Meridian. Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, verified by Intertek for Delta Building Products. Hail can still mark a metal roof; what matters is that the panels stay locked and watertight.

Wildfire

Aluminum does not burn

Idaho's Ready, Set, Go! wildfire guide calls the roof the most vulnerable part of a home, because windblown embers land and lodge there. Aluminum does not burn, there are no shake grooves or granules for embers to settle into, and Interlock offers Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly.

Snow

Light on the framing, built to shed

Installed, Interlock panels weigh about 0.41 to 0.59 lb per square foot depending on profile (ICC-ES ESR-1790), a fraction of concrete tile or natural slate. Smooth aluminum lets snow slide, so we plan snow guards over entries, decks and driveways at the estimate. Ice damming comes from attic heat loss and is a stated exclusion of the material warranty; we look at insulation and ventilation with you.

Freeze–thaw

Nothing to soak up water

Southwest Idaho winters swing between freezing nights and sunny afternoons. Water that soaks into wood shakes or works under asphalt tabs freezes and expands. Aluminum absorbs no water and cannot rot, and Interlock panels lock to each other on all four sides with the fasteners concealed under the panel above.

Wind

Locked on four sides

Storm fronts and canyon winds work at loose tabs, lifted shakes and exposed screw heads. Interlock panels interlock on all four sides and are fastened where the weather can't reach. Wind resistance is warranted to 120 mph when installed to manufacturer specification.

Summer sun

Reflects the summer sun in every color

Boise summers are hot, dry and bright. The Alunar® finish uses pigments that reflect much of the sun's near-infrared energy: solar reflectance from 0.25 to 0.55 depending on color and thermal emittance of 0.84. Interlock roofs can cut cooling-energy use by up to 25% compared with conventional dark roofing; actual savings vary. The Alunar® finish is warranted for 30 years.

What matters where you live

Our office is in Boise, at 3295 W Elder St. Boise homes range from North End and East End older houses to foothills homes above Hulls Gulch and newer subdivisions in southeast and west Boise.

Foothills and wildfire

Homes along the Boise Foothills sit in the wildland-urban interface. Boise's fire code asks for a Class A roof on ignition-resistant construction there, including when a roof is replaced. Interlock offers Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly.

Historic districts

Boise has historic districts with their own design review. Check with the City of Boise's historic preservation staff before you choose a profile and color; we bring samples and product documents to that conversation.

A permit for the re-roof

Boise, Meridian and Nampa require a building permit to re-roof; elsewhere, ask your city. We pull the permit as part of the job and build to the code your city enforces.

Where we work

Boise and the Treasure Valley first. The rest of Idaho, ask us.

Metal roofing for Idaho homes from a company that installs one system: Interlock® aluminum shingles in Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles, plus Standing Seam, made in North America by Interlock Roofing and installed by Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc. from our office in Boise. Boise and the Treasure Valley first; elsewhere in Idaho, ask us.

Idaho is a new market for us, so you will not find Idaho install counts or Idaho reviews on this site yet. What we can show you is the system, the warranties, the Idaho registration and how we plan a roof for Idaho weather.

Elsewhere in Idaho (Mountain Home, McCall and the mountains, the Magic Valley, eastern Idaho and north Idaho): call or write and ask. We will tell you plainly whether we can schedule your roof.

Why this system, in Idaho

What an Idaho year does to a roof. And what aluminum does about it.

Hail

Spring and summer storms

Hail comes with Treasure Valley thunderstorms; on June 26, 2026 a storm left several inches of small hail on the ground in northwest Meridian. Interlock's Slate, Cedar Shingle, Shake and Mediterranean Tile profiles carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating, verified by Intertek for Delta Building Products, and the panels lock to each other on all four sides with the fasteners concealed.

Wildfire

Embers land on roofs first

Idaho's Ready, Set, Go! guide calls the roof the most vulnerable part of a home in a wildfire, because windblown embers lodge there. Aluminum does not burn, and an Interlock roof is Class A Fire Rated Available, as a complete assembly; in Boise's wildland-urban interface areas, the city's fire code asks for a Class A roof on ignition-resistant construction.

Snow and freeze–thaw

Cold nights, sunny days

A roof in Idaho sees snow, ice and long runs of freezing nights and sunny afternoons. Aluminum absorbs no water, so there is nothing for freeze–thaw to split, and smooth panels shed snow; we plan snow guards wherever a slide would land on an entry, deck or driveway. Ice damming comes from attic heat loss and is a stated exclusion of the material warranty.

Straight answers

What Idaho homeowners ask us first.

All of our answers ↗

Who installs Interlock® metal roofs in Idaho?

Interlock Metal Roofing (PNW) Inc., the certified and exclusive Interlock® installer in Idaho, Oregon and Washington. We are registered as a General Contractor with the Idaho Division of Occupational and Professional Licenses (DOPL #6181938) and work from our office at 3295 W Elder St, Suite 209, Boise.

Where in Idaho do you install?

Boise and the Treasure Valley first: Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Star, Kuna, Garden City, Nampa and Caldwell. Elsewhere in southwest Idaho, and in the rest of the state, call us and ask; we will tell you plainly whether we can schedule your roof.

Have you installed many roofs in Idaho?

Not yet. Idaho is a new market for us, and we will not show you Idaho roofs or Idaho reviews until we have them. The company has installed Interlock® roofs in Oregon and Washington since 1997.

What warranty comes with an Interlock roof in Idaho?

The manufacturer's Guardian Lifetime Limited Material Warranty covers the material and finish for the original purchaser for as long as they own the home, and it can be transferred once; the second owner is covered to 50 years from substantial completion. The installation is covered by our 10 Year Limited Labor Warranty (Form 5335), the same certificate we issue in Oregon and Washington.

Can an Interlock roof go over my existing asphalt shingles?

Sometimes. A single layer of asphalt can be roofed over only if an inspection finds it suitable; cedar shingles and shakes, concrete tile and natural slate always come off first. Your city may limit the number of roof layers too, so we check both at the estimate.
